Why? It is because Facebook is now connecting over 800 Million plus users. Twitter is now up to 225 Million users. Linkedin has over 135 Million users and Youtube is exceeding over 2 Million views a day.
Simply put, every day Social media continues to gain momentum. How? There are more people talking about it, more people speculating about it and more people joining this massive transformation.
In other words, Social media has become word of mouth shot up on steroids. Just think back to the good old days before Facebook and the likes so to speak. Remember, when you might have to call a friend to organize a night out to the cinema. You might start off a conversation by saying“how was your weekend?” and perhaps you might mention, your trip to the cinema was great or it was a bad experience the film you watched. Without even giving the slightest thought to it, you were either promoting it or discrediting it.
Now days, since the Social Media transformation, when planning or organizing a trip to the cinema, you would take a different course of action and it would go something like this:
Login to Facebook and ask your friend’s who’s free to go to the cinema on X date. Your friends will respond with their availability and of course ask about what film you might like to watch. A dialogue will now ensue. And soon a decision gets agreed upon about what to watch, when and where to meet, only after having numerous people share their comment as to what they think should be seen based on their experience.
When that day arrived to go see the movie, those who are included in the cinema party will most likely post to Facebook and other social media platforms that they are going to the cinema, to see X film, at X time and at X venue. This will start off another conversation on Facebook whereby more people will attend and a larger group will form.
Some people might even start to update their social media profiles during the film.
Imagine this, the film ends and the attendees of that movie will now post to their social media profiles using their phone about how good or how bad the film was, comment on the actors and the story line and so forth. This will fire up another conversation amongst Facebook friends, whereby people will comment with their experiences in return. This will now inspire or discourage people from seeing this film.
As a result the name of the film gets promoted, as does the storyline and the independent reviews associated with seeing. So you can see that since the introduction of social media, the momentum of word of mouth marketing can spread like wildfire. Wouldn’t you like to have that sort of free marketing?
